![]() The 29x3.0” rubber is the first thing that will grab the attention of riders and passers-by alike, but there are some very interesting details in this thing that you may not have ever seen before in a bike. The Stache is an interesting looking beast. We got our hands on the mid-spec alloy Stache 7 and got busy finding out how they went. With their Stache models, Trek aim to redefine the 29+ genre with a range of bikes that are super comfortable and roll extremely well - but handle like a trail bike should and don’t weigh a tonne. The options have remained slim since then however, mostly due to the lack of suspension fork options, and 29+ has been the domain of the bikepacker who had very little need for a light, nimble bike as long as it could roll through hell and back. ![]() In truth the 29+ category predates the rise of other Plus bikes by some years, first being brought to life by Surly in 2012 with their Krampus. The Stache 7 will feature a brand new SRAM 1x11 drivetrain and the new Manitou Magnum Comp fork. The high-end Stache 9 features a fully loaded ride which includes a SRAM X1 1x11 drivetrain, dropper post, and a new Manitou Magnum Pro suspension fork. Stache also can be optimized for 29+, 27.5+ or standard 29 wheels so riders can choose the wheel size and tire width that best matches their riding style.Īnd happily, Stache is available now with 2 alloy models in the lineup, as well as a frameset. In addition, Stache incorporates wider hub interfaces with Boost 148 and Boost 110 to allow for stiffer wheels, more tire clearance and shorter chainstays. All models come with the industry benchmark for mid-fat tires, the 29x3.0 Bontrager Chupacabra. This mid-fat (or plus) category of bikes will expand rapidly in the mountain bike world, and Trek will lead the charge with its 29+ Stache offering. ![]() In short, its unlike anything you've ever ridden, and it's going to blow minds. These mid-fat tires are paired with some of the shortest chainstays we've ever engineered to deliver a more playful bike than any other 29er hardtail out there. With massive 3 wide 29er tires, this bike delivers more traction and confidence in all circumstances and will destroy preconceived notions of what a hardtail can do. Stache is for those who want the capability of a full suspension trail bike with the simplicity and efficiency of a hardtail. Completely redesigned trail hardtail redefines the category with new mid-fat 29+ wheels and tires.
